Often these images are not credited and have lost their original metadata and therefore have no means to be credited, as there are no direct licensing links or connections to image owners associated with them. These are frequently referred to as orphan works − images that have become unattributable to their owners − much like a child who can’t find his/her parents, even though they exist. ImageExchange rescues these orphan works in the sense that the works are reclaimed by rightful owners and ownership is attributed  wherever they’re seen. What’s more, once ownership and responsibility are reclaimed, that formerly lost image becomes very useful as a promotion tool and steady revenue generator as it drives traffic to more of its owner’s works and creates more licensing opportunities.
